ABB Power Grids is seeking an Application Engineer in various locations. The responsibilities include in coordinating with the product management and business development groups to specify and promote effective applications, equipment and methods to targeted customer base.
It also includes providing consulting services to production operations as well as training and support functions to sales.
Under limited direction, perform a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of a specific engineering discipline plus an understanding of related disciplines to cost effectively achieve objectives.
Assignments typically require the use of advanced and innovative techniques. Proactively seek and implement initiatives to improve customer acceptance of assigned product portfolio and increase customer satisfaction.
Design, analyze, and evaluate systems, products or components, requiring a high degree of technical expertise.
Identify and develop new major business opportunity utilizing various resources and experience base. Participate in planning efforts in conjunction with other sales and business development personnel.
Participate and play a major role in devising and executing product marketing strategies, master plans and schedules. Introduce tactics designed to ensure awareness of market level trends, preferences and behaviors to influence product development and positioning, in order to achieve long range business objectives.
Evaluate new product, product improvement and new business opportunities. Assist product management, business development, engineering, and sales with developing and implementing tactics to capture additional sales, market share, and profits.
Design and develop complex models or simulations and apply advanced computer programs, analytical techniques or control strategies to effectively meet requirements and resolve problems.
Act as principal investigator or lead a group of engineers investigating problems, developing solutions and preparing related recommendations and reports.
Conduct economic studies and prepare or lead the preparation of specifications, proposals for contracts, licensing and safety documents, and obtain required approvals.
Represent the group in meetings and conferences; interact with customers to resolve significant technical issues and develop related action plans.
Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience
Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
Masters level degree or course work in business or relevant engineering discipline preferred
Demonstrated experience with power / distribution transformers, their components, and digital solutions preferred
Strong communications skills to influence senior managers and negotiate technical matters with customers on issues that may have financial and future business implications
Thorough understanding of customer value chain networks and influencers
Travel is required in the range of 25%-50%
