Purpose of the Role :

The prime function of this role is to :

  • lead and take decisions on all Governance (Safety, Quality, Risk, Environment) requirements for the site(s) / market
  • plan and develop performance, standards, frameworks and capabilities to meet the market / site(s) scorecard targets, aligned with Diageo’s Strategy.
  • take direct responsibility for management systems, standards, procedures, risk management
  • set the mechanisms for how Governance objectives and risks are managed.
  • Oversee controls to assure compliance with applicable regulatory and legal requirements as well as good business practices
  • minimise risk of harm to employees and reputation through not meeting stakeholder requirements (internal and external)
  • The significance of this role is important as an in-market lead implementing the wider company Governance strategy, policy and programs, which are identified as a business priority.

    Key Accountabilities :

  • Responsible for Governance management - executing the Diageo OPEX standards, blue print strategy, code of conduct and Safety policy at market / site.
  • Provide Governance technical leadership and coaching to operational teams on meeting Diageo standards and targets.
  • Set market / site(s) Governance targets, and develop plans to meet those targets and oversee their delivery.
  • Ensure that any improvements implemented are standardised and sustained within operational teams.
  • Manage specialist Governance support roles.
  • Be disciplined about the importance of adhering to all Governance standards across the site. Expect others to be disciplined and never walk past anything, which does not meet the standard.
  • Audit, analyse and report Governance performance to internal and external stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the Organisation's Governance risks and financial costs; managing risk and contingency management.
  • Operate as part of an integrated management team, managing expectations and escalating issues as required.
  • Engage with the Daily Operational Review meetings to provide expert analysis of performance and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and implement Governance management systems to continually improve our delivery of KPIs.
  • As necessary, liaise with relevant bodies such as local authorities, public bodies and competent bodies. Write Governance reports, assuming lead responsibility for the market / site(s).
  • On call to respond to emergencies at the plant.
  • Entry Level Requirements Capabilities, Skills & Experience :

  • A proven track record in managing people and or small teams, projects and cross-functional team working
  • Great engagement and communication skills
  • Experience of coaching and influencing a range of stakeholders for success
  • At least 7 years’ experience in a process environment.
  • Has delivered change programmes in a production led environment
  • Typically educated to degree standard in Governance or science related discipline or qualified through relevant experience
  • Overall, good knowledge of Governance legislation and standards
  • Advanced competency in Diageo Governance capability framework
  • Excellence in Supply Chain :

    Upholds Standards The role holder will be expected to embrace the OPEX standards, apply them effectively in their role and adhere to them at all times.

    Performance Management The role holder will understand the importance of KPIs in driving performance; know how to track their targets and correct as appropriate.

    Continuous Improvement the role holder will be expected to be flexible and embrace change, continually looking for ways to improve everything they do.

    They will use various continuous improvement tools and techniques to solve problems. They will also be expected to own the relationship with the following key external stakeholders : suppliers, contractors, external audit, external governmental agencies, key internal stakeholders
