Job main responsibilities :
BASIC FUNCTIONS :
Reporting to Global Head of Intellectual Property in Switzerland, you will assist in implementing Omya's strategy across the US & Canada by conducting patent scouting & market intelligence to support strategic decision making in the IP space.
This position will serve as a liaison among various internal stakeholders and will be managing external resources and assisting in determining patent needs.
The market sectors include paper, packaging (plastic and fiber), technical polymers, construction, consumer goods, agriculture, water & energy.
Identify, analyze and communicate relevant art to project teams and management to help set innovation direction.
Drive the collaborative creation of IP strategies.
Identify what's important to own and ensure sufficiency of data for patent drafting (in conjunction with Group IP).
Ensure Freedom to Operate opinions are timely sought and that appropriate follow through occurs.
Collaborate with Group IP to manage the RAM patent portfolio and provide input for active patent prosecutions and considerations of which patents to maintain in the portfolio.
Educate staff at corporate and plant level on Intellectual Property concerns.
Propose solutions to complex Intellectual Property challenges around trade secrets, patentability, freedom to operate, and defensibility for all segments.
Develop and implement IP Strategy by researching patent landscape, perform IP risk assessments and develop IP sustainability strategies.
Provide excellent client service by responding promptly and substantively to all inquiries.
Educate scientists, engineers, and business teams on Intellectual Property challenges and concerns.
Handle contract reviews and advise on licensing matters.
Conducts complex rights-related research for client departments to clarify deal-points and rights information.
Follow and advise on industry trends in each market sector.
Promptly distribute agreements, rights summaries, and other internal documents to the Global Head of Intellectual Property in Switzerland.
Communicate and update IP Strategy per business segment and region as needed
Support creation of contracts such as NDA's, JDA's
Thoroughly review client and internal communications to determine the scope and urgency of all requests.
Ability to develop realistic plans and timetables for own work.
Strong analytical skills to comprehensively evaluate information.
Decision-making skills are needed to produce recommendations.
Streamlines workflow, making recommendations on system, policy and business process improvements.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, team player and ability to handle pressure.
Candidate profile requirements :
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, geology, material science, chemical engineering, or another related field and a minimum of 3 years’ technical experience and 2+ years of hands-on experience on IP matters like patent search, analytics, etc.
Must have the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Must be bilingual in english and spanish.
Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally approximately 20%-40%.
