Customs Compliance manager for the Americas is responsible for managing all compliance aspects of international trade on behalf of Universal Electronics, Americas.

In charge of leading a team of trade professionals to fulfill all company and government requirements for their trade projects, creating effective export and import initiatives to increase productivity and reduce trade-related issues.

This position is based in Monterrey, NL Mexico and reports directly to the Director, Global Logistics.

Essential duties an responsibilities

This position is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating activities to ensure compliance whit us customs, mexico customs and other government Agencies regulatory standars for universal electronics.

This role also has responsibility for assisting whit the customs documentation of import and export shipments as well as participating on service and cost optimization projects and driving systematic improvements

Duties and responsibilities

  • Comply with any / all us / all Mexico customs requirements, government regulations, and internal standars in order to maintain a low risk importer status
  • Execute customs compliance reviews and audits
  • Prepare customs value reconciliations for company's imports form IMMEX operations
  • Develop internal programs and workflow processes which support the aforementioned compliance and standars goals, develop and deliver training on compliance to the border organization
  • Support strategies to reduce annual duties and tariffs and lead participation in programs such as USMCA
  • Responsible for filing Post Entry Adjustments, Binding Ruling Requests, Protests and other correspondence to the appropriate US government authorities.
  • Serves as an escalation point of contact to US and Mexico Customs, as well as our nominated customs broker, agents, and internal management, in order to resolve any issues or problems surrounding the importation of products goods and Equipment
  • Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of all customs entries, as well as Importer Security Filings for Universal Electronics and its subsidiaries
  • Provide oversight over of the HTS classification process for all products to assure accurate payment of duties and taxes to US Customs to include maintenance and updating of UEI and its divisions
  • Perform periodic audits to ensure continued compliance with US Customs and any other government regulatory agencies / requirements
  • Ownership and maintenance of UEI Customs Compliance Manual, ensuring that all information is complete and accurate
  • Maintain required US Customs recordkeeping for Universal Electronics and its subsidiaries
  • Calculate budget / forecast for duties and other import fees
  • Assist in developing and communicating company trade compliance policies and lead implementation of systems and processes to support those policies
  • Educate internal business partners on the costs and complexities of international shipments. Provide and develop internal and third-party operating procedures
  • Identify and implement strategies to improve and streamline trade compliance processes, Drive US import compliance ensuring adherence to appropriate regulations
  • Other duties as assigned, evaluate and make recommendations based on audits and identified risks

  • Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required; focus in Business, Logistics or International Trade preferred
  • Minimum of 6 years of import compliance experience preferred
  • Expert-level knowledge of Mexico IMMEX rules and regulations
  • Experience working with a US customs and US customs brokers
  • Skilled knowledge of import / export regulations
  • Exceptional command of written and spoken English and Spanish languages

  • Work Conditions

  • On-site work required in Monterrey Plant situated in Apodaca NL, Mexico
  • Some travel may be required for the purpose of facility relocations or any projects at remote offices
  • Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings
