The primary responsibility of the Finishing / Packaging Operator is the set-up, operation, maintenance and cleaning of all finishing equipment including the saws, roll cases, beltways and grade bins as well as all packaging equipment.
The operator also has the responsibility of ensuring that the quality of the product meets or exceeds the customer's specifications both internal and external.
Additionally the position is responsible for the labeling, inventory, and putting away of all finished material in the proper warehouse location.
The operator will be required to identify conditions which may lead to substandard quality or up-time and initiate the proper corrective action.
Communicate with team members, supervisors and leadership regarding daily production
Set up, operate, troubleshoot and adjust all equipment in the finishing and packing area including the forklift.
Utilize computer programs to input, monitor, research and track orders according to customer requirements
Communicate any sub-standard area of finishing that could impact the safety of the machine or people, quality of the product, or the efficiency of the finishing and packaging line.
Identify root cause of issues during operation and document issue(s)
Follow up on issues assigned to this position until completion
Perform preventative maintenance procedures as scheduled or directed
Assist or fill in for other positions as required
Troubleshoot and identify problems that cause reoccurring work and strive to provide solutions to improve.
Accurately record and communicate all necessary production data, as directed i.e. down time, scrap, rejected materials, verification sheets, etc.
Inspect, document and maintain the finishing area and other areas of the plant to ensure quality is not impacted.
Perform required quality tests such as, but not limited to, length, width, squareness and thickness.
Document all required verification sheets and immediately communicate sub quality checks to team members and your Supervisor.
Ensure all finished packaged units have the correct piece count, proper packaging, and appearance meets specifications.
Work closely with all team members, supervisors and leadership to identify, report and correct existing or potential quality issues, productivity improvements, or cost reduction initiatives
Comply with safety expectations including wearing PPE at all times and safety belts while operating a forklift
Perform routine safety inspections of area assigned
Work closely with all team members, supervisors, and leadership to identify, report and correct existing or potential safety hazards
Complete all required safety training as required complying with established deadlines
Minimum Qualification :
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certification
Ability to handle multiple priorities, stress, provide detailed work, sound reasoning, and meet required deadlines
The ability to be flexible in duties, analytical and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to be exceptionally self-motivated and directed, organized, and a keen attention to detail
The ability to work consistently on a concrete plant production floor and in multiple (hot, cold, dirty, etc.) environmental conditions
The ability to be available for on-call and periodic overtime
The ability to frequently bend, lift (minimum 50 lbs. unassisted), stand for extended periods of time, kneel and move for extended periods of time
The ability to have dexterity of hands and fingers to utilize appropriate equipment and tools
This position will be required to work a 12 hour rotating (days / nights) shift including weekends and holidays.
