ABB Inc. seeks an experienced Sales Proposal Engineer for our Power Grids, Grid Automation Business Line for the United States, Canada and Latin America.
You will be part of our Network Controls Sales team responsible for supporting the commercial / technical proposal preparation process, which serves our utility, industrial, and commercial customers with Network Control Americas software solutions, products and services to help monitor and control electricity efficiently and reliably, maintain power quality, and control and manage their electrical networks.
Requires strong knowledge of the organization's products, understanding of drawings and related documents, and ability to prepare cost estimates.
Interfacing with other groups requires ability to communicate effectively. Work is subject to general overview to ensure quality.
Plan and prepare high quality proposals in an efficient and timely manner as required by management and client’s request, using the best competitive solution.
Partnering closely with sales account managers to ensure that customer needs are fully addressed in the proposal.
Work actively with Capture Team from early stage of the proposal by developing ABB’s value proposition, identifying the risk and opportunities, developing the project execution plan, exploring potential partners and developing the winning strategy.
Develop player map, risk review documents along with Sales Account Manager / Regional Sales
Analyze historical pricing data to determine target price for winning strategy.
Review and analyze customer specifications and data to compile information for bids and prepare proposals responsive to customer requirements.
Utilize tools and systems required for generation of all Proposals and storage of all technical and pricing data generated in the process of generating proposals.
Prepare cost estimates for new bids, contract changes and requests for quotations utilizing basic engineering data, drawings, customer specifications and related information, and summarize total cost estimates.
Develop or assist in the development of internal documents such as commercial agreements, pricing
spreadsheets, risk analysis and mitigation worksheets, cash flow information.
Record all negotiation results from suppliers and customers and upon receipt of order and participate in project management 'hand-
over' meetings to ensure that all technical and commercial objectives are understood by the project management or order handling personnel.
Participate in developing project execution plan with Project Management and Regional Sales.
Review and analyze a variety of engineering data, documents and reports.
Consult with other engineering groups to ensure that specified engineering criteria are suitable for the proposed application, and recommend revisions, as appropriate.
Work actively with Supply Chain and suppliers from early stage of the proposal by developing ABB’s value proposition, identifying the risk and opportunities, developing the project execution plan, exploring potential partners and developing the winning strategy.
We are looking for a candidate with
Bachelor's Degree in engineering, software / hardware or related field
Minimum five (5) years of software experience; alternatively, a special combination of education and experience and / or demonstrated accomplishments.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in electric utility management and / or enterprise software. Specific areas of experience that would be helpful are SCADA, power generation, transmission and distribution and knowledge of server hardware and architecture and cyber-security.
Thorough understanding of standard engineering theories, concepts, principles and techniques.
Proficient CAD / 3D design skills
Experience in estimating, negotiations and development of technical proposals.
Ability to communicate effectively, act decisively and communicate the importance of changes in the marketplace.
Fully adept in Microsoft Office.
Strong analytical understanding. Advanced skills in Excel.
Strong interpersonal skills are required to achieve cooperation, negotiate and reach agreement with internal / external customers and suppliers.
Ability to work independently on proposal projects must be blended with the ability to manage and work well with others (sales, engineering, supply chain management, vendors and subcontractors) to create solutions that meet the customer’s expectations.
Requires strong technical aptitude to evaluate and assemble solutions for complex technical problems and determine the best path forward to cost effectively meet tight schedules.
Broad knowledge of diverse operations and ability to independently resolve complex problems is a plus.

High degree of intercultural sensitivity and integrity.
Excellent written and verbal English and Spanish (Portuguese also helpful but not mandatory)
