Principal Accountabilities : Key activities and decision making areas Impact on the Business / Function

  • Supports the development of group-wide Talent policies, products, frameworks and tools, and ensures that these meet Global Business / Functions / HTS and regulatory requirements
  • Supports for a specific business line / function / HOST the annual Talent and Succession Planning cycle working with the Development Head and wider HR community to complete
  • Communicates, educates and supports the execution of group-wide Talent policies, products and processes
  • As part of the Group team, supports the global execution of the Talent calendar / plan, working to ensure consistent delivery across Global Business / Functions / HOST and regions
  • Works with the Head of Talent and Head of Development to define standard and ad hoc operational and management Talent reporting and analysis
  • Provides regular and ad hoc Talent MI and reporting and analysis to the respective Head of Development, HR Exco and other committees as required
  • Supports committee requirements e.g. GPC
  • Supports specific business / function / HOST related talent initiatives
  • Customers / Stakeholders

  • Works directly with Development team leads to ensure the design of group-wide Talent policies and processes meets the needs of the Global Business / Functions / HOST and regions
  • Works closely with regional and local Talent leads to oversee the execution of the Talent calendar / plan
  • Manages Vendors on behalf of clients
  • Leadership & Teamwork

  • Active member of the talent community, serving as a specialist where appropriate
  • Attends meetings on request
  • Acts as a role model for HSBC’s values; leading with courageous integrity and embedding the values in day to day behaviours and decision making
  • Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Reviews and continuously seeks to improve group-wide Talent processes and reporting procedures
  • Actively monitors and manages risk in the execution of the Group Succession Plan and Talent colander / plan
  • Defines and oversees the execution of standard Talent MI and reporting, working closely with the COO Function
  • Reports on the project management and execution of group-wide talent processe and policies
  • Reports on Talent activity globally and by Global Business / Functions / HTS
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and bank policies, monitoring audit and risk management reports and initiating corrective actions where necessary
  • Major Challenges (The challenges inherent in the role that require a continual test of the role holder’s abilities)

  • Dynamic Environment - HSBC is heading towards a future influenced by social trends such as skills shortages, globalisation, the aging workforce and increasing demands for work / life balance.
  • The job holder needs to ensure HSBC is equipped to meet these challenges better than its competitors. Failure to do so will create major productivity and profitability challenges in the next 5-10 years

  • Stakeholder Management - The jobholder has to deal with a wide range of parties (e.g. generalists, internal clients from different GF / GB, etc.
  • and cannot operate as a functional specialist in a silo, therefore requiring the job holder to see the wider implications of actions, to be able to navigate around the complex matrix, and to balance competing needs and demands by applying business acumen, judgment and influential skills

    Management & Leadership of Regulatory, Compliance & Operational Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements) Demonstrates leadership on Regulatory & Compliance matters.

    Maintains awareness of operational risk and minimises the likelihood of it occurring including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting in accordance with section B.

    1.2 of the Group Operations FIM Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)Maintains and observes HSBC internal control standards, implements and observes Group Compliance Policy, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal / external auditors and external regulators.

    Fosters a compliance culture and implements Group Compliance Policy by managing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Regional Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources are in place and training is provided, and optimising relations with regulators Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications (For the role not the role holder.

    Minimum requirements of the role.)

  • A bachelor degree in HR / Psychology / Organisational Development and / or business disciplines
  • A minimum of 6+ years’ HR experience with focus on talent and development
  • Experience of working in a large organisation, ideally international
  • Experience in project management and coordinating delivery through others
  • Experience of working with third party suppliers
  • Fluency in English is mandatory and the ability to speak local language is desirable
  • Good working knowledge in MS Office
