What is the primary purpose of this role? How does it contribute to the achievement of overall business objectives?

  • Supervises one or more small work team.
  • Reviews the work of staff.
  • Ensures accuracy, quality, and timeliness of the team's goals and objectives.
  • Assigns and delegates work to staff, and provides appropriate training.
  • May participate in hiring process.
  • Responsible for meeting assigned schedules and targets.
  • Participates in performance management process for direct reports.
  • Builds, and maintains relationships with internal stakeholders,
  • This role also includes direct involvement in production work.

    What are the primary responsibilities and accountabilities of this role?


  • Acts as primary resource for team work processes.

  • Provides day-to-day supervision of work activities to meet product and quality standards and target.
  • Verifies the work of team for accuracy and completeness.
  • Covers for team members as and when required.
  • Monitors workflow for team or assigned area, including controlling backlogs.
  • May prepare production and administrative reports as needed
  • May assist in managing metrics and maintenance of work schedules and production
  • Ensures service level agreements are met consistently.

  • Participates in performance management process for direct reports.
  • Provides feedback and is responsible for development and coaching of staff
  • Identifies training needs and coordinates training activities.
  • May provide input into hiring and promotional decisions.

  • May participates in process improvement initiatives / efforts at the Team level, recommending changes to improve productivity and quality.

  • Effectively communicates with staff, peers, and managers.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with internal stakeholders.

    Size, nature and complexity of work. Budgetary accountability. Degree of influence.

  • Has responsibility for a group or team employees to influence sub-unit / department results where procedures are largely standardized.
  • Has basic supervisory knowledge and skills
  • Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with other supervisors.
  • Decisions impact efficiency and effectiveness of own area and are largely guided by policies and procedures.
  • Interprets internal stakeholder needs and assesses requirements.

  • Has basic people management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, verbally and in writing
  • Working knowledge of production processes, editorial standards, products, and system(s)
