The Senior Research Analyst II will provide research, discovery, analysis, and support to the Chemical Insight group during the creation, launch and growth of the Lithium and Battery Materials Market Advisory Service.
Essential functions :
Provides primary research and ongoing analysis for the global industry and its end-uses. Research includes, but is not limited to producer capacities, supply / demand balance information, trade balances, pricing, production costs, individual company analysis, market analysis, consumption analysis and associated econometric modelling.
Converts industry and / or consulting experience, related knowledge / expertise, analysis, and insights into sustainable, profitable market advisory services.
Interfaces regularly with industry players to assess market balance, price developments and relevant information regarding downstream markets
Maintains interface with the IHS Markit Auto, Energy, and Technology teams to stay current on the latest trends impacting lithium / battery materials demand and to provide reciprocating expertise to these teams in the area of lithium and other battery materials
Helps develop / maintain econometric models of industry assets production and conversion costs
Stays current regarding project announcements and production developments and analyzes their short- to long-term market impact
Provides in-depth lithium-ion battery supply chain analysis, including cathode production, battery technology evolution, and production forecasts
Authors and / or edits regular neutral and objective written input for the lithium report. Continuously improves writing quality and effectiveness
Collaborates on short- and long-term supply / demand balances and price forecasts
Tracks share prices of the largest market players; provides commentary on companies' performances
Promptly responds to internal and external client questions; interfaces with clients and provides lithium / battery materials market expertise while also gathering critical market information and building solid industry trust / relationships.
Collaboratively develops market presentations and pursues client and conference presentation / speaking opportunities
Actively markets IHS Chemical capabilities
Identifies new sales opportunities; contributes to business development and strategic planning
Candidate Specifications :
To be considered for this exciting role, candidates must meet the following criteria :
At least 7 years experience in related chemicals, mining, energy, or automotive industries, acquired either in the industry, graduate research or at a research / consulting company.
University degree required; chemical engineering, geology or mining engineering preferred;
Technical understanding of the mining and processing of lithium, cobalt, graphite, nickel, and other battery related materials, preferred.
Outgoing personality; ability and willingness to establish and maintain personal relationships and develop high degree of trust at multiple levels within a client’s organization
Demonstrated team player ; ability to internalize organizational strategy and objectives and provide peer leadership for collaborative success.
Drives for action and results.
Demonstrated organized ability to research through established contacts with diverse market participant channels in telephone, email and face-to-face interfaces;
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent analytical and organizational skills; ability to identify and concisely articulate core / essential issues within complex problems and deliver insights and solutions.
Deals well with ambiguity and contradiction.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; fluent in English, multiple language fluency desired
Strong computer modelling and excel spreadsheet management skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional suite
