Primary Job Accountabilities

  • Carrier Relationship Management
  • Carrier Performance Management
  • Strategic Direction for Sustainability (EPA Smartway and other programs).
  • Internal Analytical Support (Provide assistance to internal Transplace departments to assist those departments in selecting, managing and optimizing core carriers.)
  • Consulting Services (Provide carrier management and industry insights to consulting team in support of consulting projects assessments, bids, benchmarking, etc.)
  • Essential Functions and Tasks

  • Manage, develop, coordinate, and optimize carrier relationships. Classify carriers by role (strategic, niche, etc.) and invest time as appropriate.
  • Develop strategic Top to Top relationships with key carriers. Lead efforts to develop strong relationships at all levels executive levels at carrier and Transplace, execution focused meetings between carrier Sales / Ops and Transplace account teams.
  • Identify new carriers to add to the core carrier base or to migrate from non-strategic to strategic roles.
  • Monitor the purchased transportation spend of their assigned carriers.
  • Create and distribute monthly carrier scorecards
  • Understand customer's operational requirements and ability to align that with the Transplace carrier network
  • Lead or assist in problem resolution between accounts and carrier.
  • Identify available capacity for difficult lanes and recommend carriers
  • Provide industry insights and market trends based on developing deep understanding of the North American transportation market.
  • Frequent interactions with core carrier sales, operations and executive leadership to stay current on existing and emerging trends.

  • Be data driven and use Data Mining including carrier classifications, specialty score-carding, historical information and other Transplace data to support company goals
  • Perform "Ad-Hoc Reporting as required to support account, consulting or other initiatives
  • Knowledge and Expertise

  • Knowledge of the Carriers' Business (In depth knowledge of carriers’ network and operational needs). Strong understanding of major modes : Truckload, LTL, IM, Rail, Dedicated and Private Fleets.
  • Knowledge of Carrier Operations (Which includes Financial, Equipment, Mode, Driver issues, geographical radius.)
  • Negotiation Skills, Tactics, Conflict Resolution
  • Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Tools (Ability to leverage Excel and other MS programs, including Word, Outlook, Lync, SharePoint, etc.)

  • This job will require travel, but does not require routine or extensive travel. Passport and VISA must be valid.
  • Experience

  • 7 to 10 years or more analyzing and managing Truckload transportation, either at a shipper, carrier or 3PL. Knowledge of truckload industry, major carriers, cost drivers, best practices.
  • Education

  • 4 year degree required, Logistics, Supply Chain or Industrial Engineering preferred.
