The Manager - Supplier Development Engineering (SDE) role is critical to Baxter’s Global Procurement organization and reports to the Supplier Development department.
The role is responsible for supplier manufacturing capability assessment, Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and on-going continuous improvement of supplier performance, such as : quality, delivery, cost reduction, capacity planning, proactive risk mitigation, etc.
The role shall ensure alignment with Baxter’s global business units, global supply chain functions, and regional organizations.
The role owns supplier development engineering responsibilities for one or more Baxter plants, new product development programs, and / or external contract manufacturers.
Given the complexity of the position’s scope, the incumbent must have the ability to : manage several technical projects forward simultaneously, foster cross-functional collaboration by building strong relationships with internal stakeholders (plant managers, QMRs, business unit leaders, procurement partners ), simplify the complex to solve business problems, and the courage to knock down barriers to drive business results with speed.
Lead and facilitate the resolution of critical supplier quality / capacity issues threatening continuity of supply to a Baxter manufacturing facility or External Contract Manufacturer.
Drive supplier through containment, root cause analysis, corrective action, and implementation.
Maintain alignment between supplier, Baxter’s manufacturing plant, engineering, supply chain, and broader procurement organization.
Discern whether issues are supplier-caused, escalate issues (management reporting), and pursue cost recovery, where appropriate.
Coach supplier on key tools and methods, such as : root cause analysis, 5 Whys, MSA, Gage R&R, capability analysis, FMEA, control plan, tooling capacity, statistical process control charts, DMAIC, SCAR, PPAP, PAPA, Continuous Improvement.
Drive key supplier improvement initiatives using Supplier Excellence methods and techniques, such as : kaizen workshops, value analysis / value engineering (VA / VE), cost modeling, lean six sigma training, etc.
Perform supplier capability assessments and / or audits, as related to quality systems, process controls, manufacturing capabilities, and lean maturity.
Publish audit and / or assessment reports outlining non-conformities, opportunities for improvement, and work closely with suppliers to plan / implement appropriate and timely corrective actions.
SDE responsibility for key New Product Development (NPD) programs by ensuring Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process is deployed and executed with suppliers, manufacturing plants, and engineering for on-time PPAP submission approval with quality target encompassing all aspects of supplier readiness, such as : 100% on time PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), Capacity study / Run at Rate, etc.
Maintain relationships with key external suppliers / partners and internal stakeholders / customers (manufacturing operations, planning and fulfillment, quality, business units, engineering, etc.
promoting collaboration, diversity, and a cross-functional approach to solving business problems and driving business results.
Drive supply base improvement for respective Baxter manufacturing facilities (manufacturing plants or External Contract Manufacturers (ECM), including : systematically review supplier’s performance, propose continuous improvement activities, and work with suppliers to achieve process improvements to meet quality, delivery, and cost improvement targets.
Identify the processes necessary to get things done, adheres to ethics and compliance, ability to simplify ways of working, and ability to management multiple projects simultaneously to drive efficient and effective work flow.

Willingness to work extended hours to achieve critical path deliverables, when necessary
Ability to travel extensively (over 50%), when necessary
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science field, or 7 years equivalent work experience in quality, tooling, manufacturing.
5-7 years of experience in engineering, supplier quality, manufacturing operational excellence, and / or supplier development.
Experience in plants operation is required; 3+ years in plants operation preferred
Strong understanding of many functional disciplines, such as : Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Compliance, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality, Materials Planning, etc.
1- 2 years of experience in supervising and managing a team of direct reports preferred.
Expertise in one or more discrete manufacturing operations employing plastics processing technologies (e.g. extrusion, injection molding, automated assembly, electronics (PCBAs, sensors, cables), etc.
Strong command of quality systems, methods and practices; ISO13485, APQP, FMEA, Control Plan, MSA, PPAP & Run at Rate
Proven experience in technical problem solving and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes using tools, such a s : 8D, 5 WHYs, PDCA, and DMAIC.
Lean six sigma Black Belt strongly preferred.
Experience in a large scale and global medical device, pharmaceutical or highly regulated environment preferred. Experience in Automotive, Aerospace is a plus.
