The Junior Underwriter, under supervision, will learn and apply underwriting knowledge and skills within RGA Re’s philosophy, will participate in the evaluation and classification process of medical, non-
medical, and financial risks for life insurance working to secure approved limits / progress in the Underwriting Career Path.
Responsible for continuing to learn and apply underwriting knowledge and skills.
Focuses on the introduction of risk selection principles to screen applications using case studies and other structured risk selection processes (i.
e. manuals, MD Referrals) ensuring accepted risks are sound and profitable to RGA Re.
Processes casework load to ensure completion in a timely, efficient manner, meeting or exceeding time service / productivity goals and offer / decline ratios;
and ensuring compliance with internal underwriting and audit guidelines.
Learns to build and maintain client relationships through effective communication of underwriting decisions.
Learns and applies the following underwriting basics to progress from a learner role to a competent producer role :
a. Develops basic foundation of insurance principles.
b. Develops basic understanding of both medical and non-medical underwriting (MVR, Financial, Insurable Interest, Aviation, Occupation, Avocation, etc.).
c. Develops understanding of RGA Re philosophy through manual review, cases and discussions with experienced RGA Re Underwriters and Medical Directors.
d. Familiarization with other risk selection resources (MIB, On The Risk, etc.)
e. Develops understanding and application of the ASAP tool.
f. Administrative procedures and controls for the individual underwriting and claims management functions.
g. Underwriting and claims management procedures and authorities.
Collaborates with Medical Directors, Underwriters, other team members and internal departments to obtain expert knowledge and to assist in identifying solutions and resolutions to problems / issues resulting in quality decisions and client satisfaction.
Keeps abreast of current industry developments and changes in medical and financial underwriting and maintains / updates professional development through study of literature and participation in seminars.
Participates in special projects, committees, and meetings.
Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine.
Advanced level of English (spoken, written, and listening)
1-2 years working experience in the life insurance industry.
English exams completed (i.e. TOEFL iBT score 90, IELTS score 7.5 8)
