JOB SUMMARY

This position manages all statutory requirements for all Marriott entities in Mexico. Position also ensures all subsidiaries and regional satellite departments are meeting set governmental and statutory protocols.

Responsibilities include coordination, financial statement preparation, and overall support of statutory audits for entities incorporated in the region.

This position will also be a key contributor in efforts to improve and create processes that ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information for Marriott’s subsidiaries.

The Director works with significant independence, but within established guidelines, producing and analyzing financial information as well as legal contracts to support the accounting for subsidiaries.

In addition, he / she will serve as a key point-of-contact for Mexico entity questions / issues for stakeholders across the enterprise.

SCOPE / BUSINESS CONTEXT / EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

  • This position will oversee entities in Mexico and will provide oversight of the Mexico satellite offices.
  • Manage a team of ten (10) finance and accounting professionals, prioritize projects and workload of the team and its individual members, and establish deadlines around those priorities.
  • Manage processes and procedures for producing foreign subsidiary financial statements and supporting schedules required for all local reporting requirements to include tax compliance and other statutory filing requirements.
  • Ensure completion of audits in a timely manner and in conjunction with local filing deadlines. Develop and implement ways to improve audit processes.
  • Manage annual statutory audit fees to achieve budgeted levels.

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all monthly, quarterly and annual accounting and reporting responsibilities including MIP66, Sarbanes-
  • Oxley and other required deliverables.

  • Oversee processes to record monthly activity for the Mexico entities. Review activity on foreign entity ledgers for accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Support entity set-up and utilization processes ensuring proper financial system controls and timely and accurate accounting.
  • Manage the accounting processes to support entities being legally dissolved, merged or sold.

  • Serve as point-of-contact for stakeholders across the organization as it relates to entity and shared service accounting questions / issues for subsidiaries in Mexico.
  • Provide support and expertise related to entity accounting issues in support of proposed above-property and shared service activities / initiatives.
  • Provide support for key organizational initiatives related to core responsibilities.
  • Supports CALA in region wide projects and goals.
  • Reconcile foreign subsidiary ledger balances to audited and non-audited financial statements.
  • Coordinate with local Directors of Finance (DOF) and other field personnel with respect to technical accounting issues in both local and US GAAP, ensuring that transactions are accounted for appropriately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Experience

  • Ten or more years of progressive job experience in international accounting / finance field, including experience managing others.
  • Proven manager with ability to lead a team toward the accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives and promote a positive working environment with focus on development of team members.
  • Experience with complex accounting environment to include multiple subsidiaries, currencies and basis of accounting preferred.
  • Knowledge of foreign entity structures a plus.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and / or Sun BOSSI general ledger or another general ledger system a plus.
  • Education or Certification

  • BS / BA in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA, CMA or MBA preferred
  • Attributes, Knowledge and Skills

  • Fluency in speaking, writing, and reading Spanish is required.
  • High proficiency with PC based software (Microsoft Office); use of macros and pivot tables in Excel
  • Strong business process and project management skills; capable of developing effective project plans and processes, ensuring compliance with existing processes and producing quality results.
  • Demonstrates strong skills in international accounting and multi-currency, multi-GAAP environment.
  • Able to develop and maintain effective client relationships and promote a client service orientation that delivers customer results.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative work environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to articulate issues to a variety of individuals at multiple levels within the organization.
  • Ability to make decisions in a timely manner and under pressure. Comfort with challenging status quo to improve effectiveness.
  • At ease in an environment of change; supports, manages and initiates change within the organization.
  • Proven experience in the recruitment, development and leadership of a strong team within a multi-tasked environment.

  • Demonstrates an independent ability to research and analyze transactions and balances within a complex accounting system structure and in a multi-currency environment
